Wheel Size Debate: 27.5" or 29er, Which is Better?
Fahrräder, Tests, online, Rezensionen, Bewertungen
In this video we catch up with Alex in the local wood to see which is better, 27.5" or 29er. Alex, our bike category manager rides the Orange Five 650b and Specialized Enduro 29er throughout the day. Watch the full video to find out his thoughts on both the bikes and their respective wheelsizes. Both bikes are available online at http://www.rutlandcycling.com/ where we offer a wide selection of both 27.5" and 29" wheeled bikes. Video Transcript: Well, there's a lot of choice these days when you want to look at what mountain bike to buy. Full suspension, hardtail. Aluminium, Carbon. How much travel? And of course wheel size. Today we've come to the woods on a 29" wheeled carbon bike and 27.5" alloy bike and we're going to see what is the most fun to ride. So we're on the mid sized wheel orange five now, the first thing we notice is how easy and quick it accelerates. Back on a Specialized Enduro 2 9 now. It's immediately obvious that I've got a lot more bike underneath me, both in wheel size and wheelbase. That added length in that wheelbase really helps when you're cornering. So, I'm back on the 27 and a half, those people used to riding a 26" wheeled bike, jump on a 27, it doesn't feel a million miles away. Feels quite a familiar riding experience, so you get that same spritely nature from the 27 as you do with a 26, so yea it's a good thing. Well, been out for a good chuck of the day today on two very different bikes. Two bikes that are aimed to do pretty much the same sort of thing, which is go outside, ride fast, have fun in the woods, at the hills. The Enduro, the thing that you notice about this is that its a lot of bike, its a 160mm 29er. This bike here 27 and a half pounds it can do pretty much everything you want it to do. It's not maybe as nimble as the orange was, so when it gets really tight, yea it's probably a little bit slower but it certainly makes up for it, in just its sheer speed it can carry through into sections. Where as the 29er, really flat as you when things get fast and rough, the orange and its twenty seven and a half guise makes you work a little bit more to get the most out of it. Is it fun? yea definitely. Is it more fun than the 29er? I'm not so sure, I think both bikes do the same job just a little bit differently but they're both a lot of fun.

So which is better? I watched the whole damn thing and you basically said you don;t know... I could have saved my time to watch another video instead...
-
clearly the title says which is better and this idiot could not pick one!
-
26'' for DH, 24'' for street, thats how I roll.

Hasn't it occurred to anybody that the SIZE of the RIDER has more to do with what wheel size suits him best? For a smaller person a 26" wheel size would feel-and perform- like 29" wheel would to a person over 6' tall. 27.5" being the middle range. I am about 5'11", and am happy with my 27.5 DiamondBack. 26" wheels feel too small for me, and 29ers too large.
So there! -
Dual 26r and hard tail 29r. That's how I roll

I bought a 29er and I suffered a bit of buyers remorse for a while because I thought it was too big and bulky but over time u get used to it and the bike starts to shrink I like the bike now . I think people under 6' shouldn't go for 29ers because it's a lot to move around and a small frame on them just looks dumb

Nothing wrong with 26"
It's all marketing. I personally think the smaller wheels are more aesthetically pleasing.
The 29ers look ridiculous. -
its not even a fair compairson tho.

Too bad he can't pronounce aluminum correctly.

I like your hemet, which brand is it?

It's a pity your customer service is not up to scratch, absolutely diabolical service I had from this company, and still waiting for a refund on a bike I never had and many emails; all I kept getting was you will be refunded in the next 48hrs,which never happened, stay well clear of rutland cycles

27.5 is for short people.

I have a 29er and would never have a 26 again after riding the 29er it feels and handles 10 times better and is much quicker but cant really see their being much difference between 27.5 and a 29er but is a big difference between 26 and 29 so i would just recommend getting a 29er just DONT get the boring 26inch wheels they are long gone thats a fact!!!👌😊

26" aint dead
-
Love the Leicestershire accent!

Not surpising this is a bullshit test since the difference between 27,5 and 29 is only interesting for the marketeers wallet. I bet in a year or 10 some asshole invents the 25,9"wheel and we should all buy it yeah! I think eating my own shite is far more useful then listening to the marketeers in cycling. Even though the results are the same, they both cause diarrhea.

Hi Rutland cycling. I'm interested into getting into mountaine biking a againe. Currently shopping around. For a 29er. And can't decide. In giant or specialised preferably. I don't want to have to change the stock parts out so I want a good bike that doesn't need that doing. Is ther a contact number I can call to fined out and ask qwestion s on the bikes I'm looking into. Best wishes Ken
