Don't ask me why I just needed to know the answer to the question, which mudguard is the best? Luckily with support from www.terrywrightcycles.co.uk and some friends I could finally find the answer. The concept is a simple one, gather a group of riders wearing paper overalls, fit various mudguards then set them loose on the trails to see which guard keeps them the cleanest. We also made sure that one rider had no guards fitted so that we could compare the assortment of mudguards fairly.

a mug guard is exactly that to keep mud of ya and if it doesn't then its not fit for purpose and should be re,labled and sold under a different name. I've bought many different ones over the years and returned every single set and demanded my money back. Basically there a useless wast of money as proved here.

So basically, none of them work? Would any of those you mention fair any better on roads in the wet.

Nice review, I have a Mudhugger rear with a Topeak set on the front, after Much trial and error I believe this to be the best set up for me and my bike.

So, the closer the mudguards are to the tires, the less mud you'll get. Who knew.
