Looks like I have spread some power values that aren't correct. Sorry about that. I now do own a power meter, the Garmin Vector which now is installed on my road bike that's in the trainer over the winter. To the point. 200w for me is hardly breathing. Sorry if I have mislead VM fans out there thinking I was only doing 200w. I currently do 300w(on a road bike which I am untrained for) at around 175 bpm, depends on how many hours and if the air in my small apartment is enough. And possibly 25w more outside. The HR raises with time but it takes quite a while to get to 175. With 180 bpm I can average 60 on a somewhat flat 30km TT with 3 fast turns. What does all this mean? It means the VM could require A LOT more power if you want to avg those advertised speeds. And I mean A LOT, like 100w. Could? The VM is inside over the winter so no direct testing and power/bpm may not be the same with the more open hip angle. Those values... velodrome testing, prototype tires? wheel skirts? Power on public road isn't the same. So if you think you can just take your Strava numbers and transfer them to a virtual velomobile and get amazed by the speeds you are fooled, just like me. There are 2 reasons I am fast. 1. It is fast ;) Just nowhere close as fast as some people believe it is. 2. I do 4,5-4,75 W/kg indoors with very limited ventilation. I will of course use the Vector in my VM next season. Until then hold tight for impartial real numbers. Filmed with the HT200 ExtremeCam on continuous recording.
