Rokform iPhone bike mount

With all the amazing cycling apps out there, having a way to put your iPhone within easy reach on your handlebars is really handy. The Rokform Bike Mount is a beautifully designed and manufactured solution -- but it has one fatal flaw.

Your review is excellent, but I kept getting distracted by your uncanny resemblance (in eyes, facial expressions, and voice) to David Hyde Pierce, aka "Niles" on "Frasier."

That fall had me cracking up. :)

It comes with a zip-lock baggie to put over it. Any baggie will do the wind force keeps it on. I lost the baggie that came with it immediately, before I even got to use it. I found that baggies for storing mothers milk fit great. I have hundreds of these left over. Of course I never lost one of these. Also, even if I don't need a baggy I put cellophane tape over the front just for dust.

Thats really useful-thanks.

You ended the review with the words "...I would never recommend that you use it." Have you found a better alternative in terms of a handllebar or stem mounted phone mount since you did this review last year? I find the Rokform to be excellent for use on the trainer during the off season, as well as on the bike during dry days. No matter what phone is used or how it is carried - I think even Darwin would agree with my recommendation that a cyclist should never answer the phone and talk while riding. That's just an accident waiting to happen. Pulling off to the side of the road or path, making sure all is clear - then answering would be the safe and prudent solution. But back to a better mount solution. Have you found one and which is it? TIA

Another option is to use headphones with the microphone built into the cable (ie. the standard apple earbuds). Wind noise isn't a problem with that microphone.

Thanks Evan. When I carry my phone in my pocket I put it in a little Ziplock bag. The freezer bags are best because the plastic is a little thicker and they don't fall apart after a couple rides. Alternatively, you can get something like the Blackburn VIP case -- see my video channel -- which does the same thing but is a little thicker so it protects the phone better and it's more durable.

Have you tryed lifeproof?

I've tried using speakerphone and it's not so much the wind noise but being out of breath and unable to hold a decent conversation that's the killer for me! Personally, I use a fairly basic showerproof zip-up case, it does the job but is a bit fiddly to operate the phone through the thick plastic cover. If you see something better, I'd love to see your review! Thanks :-)

I think the wind noise on speaker phone would be pretty bad, though if you stopped at the side of the road it might be OK. I haven't seen a well-designed iPhone mount yet. The Rokform is the only one I've tried so far and it's really nice -- except the lack of weather protection.

Thanks for the honest (and funny) review! Just a point though - you can select "Speaker" on your iPhone to use it hands free on a ride :) Is there a bike iPhone mount that you can recommend?
