Replacing Shimano Revoshift With SRAM Grip Shift Shifters
Fahrräder, Tests, online, Rezensionen, Bewertungen
I replace Shimano Revoshift shifters with SRAM Grip Shift shifters. I also replace the Shimano Rapid Rise Mega Range rear derailler (low-normal) with a more common (high-norma) operating Shimano Deore derailleur. The bike is a Gary Fisher. **If the video was useful or interesting please give it a "thumbs up" and consider subscribing. -Website: http://www.RJTheBikeGuy.com -Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/RJTheBikeGuy -Subscribe Here: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=shyflirt1 -YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/RJTheBikeGuy

I have the same issue. It won't go to gear 3.There is a large spring that forces the white hub down into contact with the floor of the housing where the hook engages to turn it. On the 3rd gear the axial force in the centerline of the hub is not strong enough and the hook doesn't engage. If I push down on the white part, the gear changes are flawless.
But changing the spring looks like a bear, so I just bent the metal arm down a bit with a punch. Strong upward force on the shifter with your thumb can also get the shift from 2-3. -
Great stuff. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for this!
My one grip shifter broke on me while I was biking. The cost of labour at the shop is more than my bike is worth, and I just need to use it for 3 more weeks.
This video is helpful for even someone like me to feel confident in fixing this part! So thanks! -
Thanks RJ this is a nice video. Am considering changing my bike's SRAM Grip Shift shifters b'se they are hard to turn. But anyway they are old

Where and why do you get these bikes?

To all who are concerned with shift lever to dérailleur ratios:
The SRAM MRX grip shift line is designed for Shimano dérailleurs with 2:1 joint/pin/link movement.
The SRAM 1.0/3.0 grip shift line is designed for SRAMs patented 1:1 joint/pin/link movement.
I believe RJ is using an MRX model compatible with the Deore dérailleur. -
when installing new shifters or replacing the cabling on your current shifters. should the shifters be on 1st gear or the last gear, for both rear derailleur and front?

working in socks? have fun at washing..

+RJ The Bike Guy @30:19 you install a Shimano Deore derailluer. But isn't that incompatible with a SRAM grip-shift? IIRC, SRAM is a one-to-one ratio while Shimano is two-to-one ratio on its grip-shifts (and I agree SRAM grip shifts are way better and better looking!) ???

thank you it helps me a lot.

Would you normally mix SRAM shifters with a shimano mech, I was always told that they had different pulling ratios, so should not be mixed?

What are the name of those 3 pronged allen key tools?

good video, no matter how much one think one knows, it's always nice to pick up some new pointers on instructional videos, i doubt ive ever watched even the most basic tasks and not picked up one little thing or two that i didnt know before. like the alcohol idea, never seen that done. The cable tools are good too. Whats your thoughts on oiling/lubing the cable housings to make the cables last longer and aide shifting? Also, do you use different cable housing for the rear derailleur to what you would for brakes.. ive heard the rear mechanism cable needs to be less flexible? ps is it my imagination or do i occasionally pick up remnants of an accent from this side of the pond somewhere? lol
