Pinkbike visited the Santa Cruz Test lab and this is why you want a Carbon bike

the first break test was very reassuring 2050lbs. hope they can make new frames stronger on the drop test than 110lbs though as 110 lbs is less that some riders body weight
-
I don't believe you nobs bashed that frame against the concrete.
That's a sin man -
Quite optimistic rating the Alu at 1400lbs.
You can see it deforming and thus getting damaged at around 1000. -
I'll save plastic for my water bottles.
-
steel would bend carbon is ideal keep in mind the video is done by a high end bike manufacture
-
what about the steel?
-
Just because carbon is strong, doesn't mean its durable, put the frames through some abrasion tests or rock gouges and see how they hold up.
-
When I heard everyone on the forums saying carbon is stronger than aluminum I thought it was bull shit until I saw this video. It made me see the light. I just bought a 2016 Giant XTC carbon hardtail mountain bike because of this video.

Your going to put your eye out........
-
Go for High Quality Aluminium.
-
Isn't there is a problem with these tests?
It doesn't seem obvious to me that there is an equivalence between aluminum bending and carbon snapping in half. -
You guys just fucked up this video. Where da fuck a Cro-Mo version???
-
Truly amazing! Thanks for sharing..

Holy shit, I was having the Aluminium vs CF dispute over my next Mountain bike, this video has changed my mind, I think im going to go with carbon fiber, i had NO idea that the stuff was this dam tough and strong
-
That video was insane to watch, not very Scientific, but fun to watch nonetheless.
-
ANd Now do it with STEEL BIKES
-
I think there is good properly made carbon fiber, then low quality knock off where they use less layers to save money or even mix with fiberglass. I seen a guy beat the shit out of a piece of CF bike tube with a hammer & it didn't break. If it was steel or aluminum it would of bent for sure. I ordered a so called CF motorcycle sprocket cover from china that looked like a combination of fiberglass & carbon fiber. The top visible side looks/is carbon fiber but the bottom side looks like fiberglass. I guess they can get away with calling CF since they did actually use a little bit.

I won't even need to read the comments section below to know that there will be a bunch of people debating how they prefer aluminum over carbon because of some stupid reason, when the reality is they simply can't afford it.

La maquina que ejerce presión al los cuadros es mas brusca y rápida con el cuadro de aluminio, el de carbón le ponen la maquina lenta y delicada para que no se dañe tan rápido.....
