Peugeot Partner Tepee

Who would have thought it? The strangest-looking car we've ever had on test turns out to be one of the ones we love the most! Incredibly versatile and practical, great value and, well, just different!

I really want this car but I like automatic transmissions. And not those horrible robots but proper auto. But Peugeot doesn't install one on this one.

Bad points: Lack of road feel from power steering. Only 4-star NCAP. You can hit your head on the shelf above the driver unless you're short. The gearchange is horrible. The gear ratios are not what you expect (sometimes have to drop to 1 while still moving). If you use the arm rest the brake lever is awkward to reach. The glove compartment is tiny (ignore this review, you can't even fit the owner's manual in it). Very little storage in doors. 7-seat version moves the middle row of seats forward giving virtually no legroom. Underfloor storage practically useless. Good points: Loads of space. Shorter than a volvo 740 or Ford Galaxy, surprisingly nippy when not fully loaded, cheapest 7-seater diesel money can buy. Nicer looking than Berlingo (IMO).

there's little point commenting on the Tepee's lack of style as it's based on a commercial vehicle - zero style is precisely why it translates so well into a family load lugger. The moment you introduce sleek lines or curves or other fashionable design cues is the moment you begin to lose all that wonderful boxy space. If anything, the fact it's so unashamedly utilitarian is the main thing that makes it interesting, not to mention v. successful for both Peugeot and Citroen (as the Berlingo).
