Overview of my New Commuting Bike
Fahrräder, Tests, online, Rezensionen, Bewertungen
I picked up this bike for $90 from somebody on Kijiji. This video is just a little tour and overview of the bike and some of my personal opinions and preferences about commuting bikes. I hope you enjoyed. Thanks for watching!

Very nice bicycle video. :) I Too ride a bicycle and I have 2 of them and I have been in love with bicycles since I was young enough and learned to ride in 2 wheels. Keep riding because it's fun and it keeps you fit and healthy. Be safe and have fun and I'll see you out there. :)

Cj I love the milk crate. I have a similar setup on my winter bike, only I use elastic nylon cords to secure it rather than zipties. Works well, with the added flexibility of reconfiguring for the weather. I used a carry-on suitcase too.
The Raleigh is a good bike. Raleigh bikes are durable and good value for money. They're not super flashy, but they'll get you where you want to go, safely and reliably. Reminds me of the older Chicago Schwinns. Heavy, but damn near bulletproof. I'd maybe upgrade the derailleur to an Altus or Acera. It's an inexpensive upgrade, but it will improve shifting performance. -
What kind of fenders are on your bike?

Practical.

Old bikes get stolen too… pity. Older bikes are way cooler and have more street cred…. a bit of rust does't hurt the image either.

I've been looking for a cheaper commuter, myself, that I can lock up outside w/o worrying about covetous eyes.

Thanks for the reply! I've been trying to find a step-thru frame that would be large enough for me, but I'm not having much luck. I have a 34" inseam. I think I'm going to experiment with lifting my leg over the top tube. If I can get used to it I'll add a milk crate on the rear rack. Thanks for the inspiration!

I bend my knee and lift it over the top tube. I find that having a milk crate is extremely handy, and I've been using them on bikes for about 5 years now. I remember that mounting the bike with the crate took a little bit of getting used to at first, but it didn't take very long for it to just become 2nd nature. If someone was having trouble mounting their bike this way, I might suggest switching to a step-through frame bike (girl's bike), to make it easier.

Love the video. Just curious, when you mount the bike do you swing your leg over the basket, or do you bend your knee and lift your leg over the top tube between the seat and handlebars? Any tips for making mounting the bike more comfortable? Thanks.

I had a raleigh grand prix back in high school. It was a "racer" with a leather seat. After a few hundred miles, it conformed to my butt. nobody else could, or would ride it! LOL!
-
Get a cheap chain lock your seat around your frame i do that all the time with a cheap chain and padlock.

I agree i just buy department store bike go around doing my job and ride home. I just buy a cheap new Huffy bike 26 inch bicycle for like 69 dollars. Never gotten stolen because who want to steal my Huffy mountain bike ? I still use a low end u lock in target and a cheap warehouse chain for rear wheel with cheap pad lock for 5 dollars

meh

I would not recommend using a typicle bike lock i bought my bike from a guy who cleans out forclosed homes and it still have a bike lock around the frame wich i was able to cut off with some regular pliers
