One Hour World Record - Francesco Russo & Eiviestretto - 91,556km (by Damjan Zabovnik)

Dekra Test Oval, Klettwitz, Germany, 2nd August 2011. Francesco Russo set a new one-hour world record with human powered vehicle, named Eiviestretto. He covered 91.556 kilometers. The vehicle is basically a product of longlasting development of Slovenian team "Eivie" with Damjan Zabovnik as the leader. The rider lies inside on his back, head first. For navigation he uses a mirror. Swiss Francesco also helped to Damjan with the latest design and by building the vehicle. So, two designers-builders and pilots (riders) joined together and after only one year of cooperation, but after many years of their attempts seperately, the world record is the least what they deserve. At least he can be positive that nobody's going to beat his KOM time.

Thanks Sherlock!

Does anyone know what is teh non faired record? I could only find a WRRA list but some of the records are lower than the old UCI version on upright bicycles.
-
pretty sure its 91.556 KMs... 91,000kph Hell, sound travels at 1200kph..

This idea has been tried before many times over the years. Its not a new idea. It's possible that it could help in an isolated all out top speed type of race, but not in a race over an hour where 'economizing' energy is the key.

The body of the bike should have the same surface on it like a golf ball, to make it slip through the air faster. They do this to some bike racing helmets.

91556km??? In an hour? That's just a little more than two laps of the planet. Impressive.
-
Wow! Almost as fast as a cheetah! Although a cheetah cannot run that fast more than half an minute I bet.

Congratulations, Damjan, Francesco, and team! What am I going to do with my autographed Sam Whittingham hour record hat now? ;-) I have an idea! YOU can send me an autographed hat! :-)

@DAMCI1 Oh, I wasn't making a criticism. I was the one who was mixed up. Just making a humorous observation.... :)

@joelcathey Well you got me early in the morning. I was living in USA for a while, but I am still Slovenian, and here we use periods instead of commas for this purpose. So I will leave it as it is. Notice I use our units km/h instead of mph too. There is no space to write the convertion in the title. Damjan

@joelcathey Right, thank you, I change that right now.
-
So easy to mix up commas and periods and think this video is claiming he went 92 thousand kilometers....

@HumanRightsVideosT Another great point. Help me to establish that Olympic discipline and I would definitely race in it.
-
@HumanRightsVideosT The difference between HPVs for flat terrain versus those for downhill would become much bigger at like 3% downhill.
-
@HumanRightsVideosT That's interesting point. Weight is important, as you need to accelerate more at the last minute of the run-up. I don't want to say the achievements in Battle Mountain have no point, as I tried it and I know I tried my best. But, lets say we have 3 % downhill. Then the speeds would be probably close to 200 km/h. The vehicle would have to be then more similar to motor-bikes, for safety and control reasons. Would that still be a human powered vehicle?
-
@HumanRightsVideosT Thanks.

You are right. Will figure something out.
