Thanks for sharing some insights in such a great video! It also makes for a more enjoyable watch of the "machines" Nino and Julien during the past years, as we finally see a hint of the preparation behind and the work and methodology put in that lead to the amazing results.
Obviously it's a quite targeted training path, since the minute-bursts in XCO with micro-recoveries are totally different from a marathon or long cycling races. Good to see the proven 3/1week training plan here as well, since many overdo it with not putting in any rest and overtraining is common.
What I wonder about is the physiological effect of high-mountain training and whether there is any difference in the top athletes' approach and circumstances. I assume Nino not only trains but lives on high altitudes as well, probably Julien as well in the French mountains. Would that have a major impact on the sustained level of fitness and does it actually improve physical progression (i.e. muscle build, cardio, etc.) as well over a longer timespan more efficiently than sea-level training? As a hobby cyclist I notice a significant difference in performance after I return from a week of wintersports in high altitudes due to more oxygen on sea level, but whether it's only temporary or a single week actually builds stamina and strength with lasting effect for the season as well?.. Is it a major advantage for a race season to always start out with a training week on high altitude or does it only provide the short benefit right after returning to oxygen-rich areas?
On a contradictory concept, due to the lack of oxygen higher up, does it not create an adverse effect when considering building muscle and burning fat and the higher need for oxygen to create an optimal situation on top level for that? -

Super nice !
-
Excellent work, it's great to hear from the Champion Thomas Frischknecht who knows what it took then and now too.
-
As for beginner racer is it better to have hard work week before compatiotion (2 days rest before competition), or it's better to have relax week before competition?
-
Whats the song in the beginning and 4:05? anybody? please?

The exponential increase in number and variety of endurance athletes alongside with the spread of information on the internet has started to challenge the traditional way of coaching. Many of these new athletes rely on inaccurate sources of information to create their own training plans, nor uncommonly leading to physical injuries and/or psychological damage (such as frustration and demotivation). Runningclubs and personal training are an option but they require the person to follow a certain fixed schedule that may not always fit one's professional / personal priorities.
WheelPowerteam provides the best of these two worlds. Our team of coaches will create personalized online training plans for you so that you can train anytime you want. We will also follow your progress and make sure the training plan fits your performance and time availability. -
