Ok so I bought a new riding mower, a 2015 Troy Bilt Bronco (By MTD). I purchased the mulch kit detailed in the manual and online. The kit DOES NOT FIT not even a little. After an hour on the phone and lots of other research I have found the correct kit. Several MTD 42" mowers have changed decks for the 2015 season, these mowers cannot use the old mulch kit. In this video I show the differences between the kits and how to tell which one you need as well as the appropriate kit numbers. why remove the deck????? I simply went down to lowes and asked what mulch kit to install they gave me the right one. took me longer to find the socket for the blades at home than to install the mulch kit maybe 10 minutes. not deck removal needed.

Thanks for the info on the different mulching kits..Same situation for my new MTD Yardman 42 inch deck..You saved me from getting the wrong one and having to return it and then figuring out the correct one...

My daughter just bought one of these from Lowes. Why the hell these mulching kits aren't put on before delivery is something I don't understand. I had to take off the deck and go rent a huge breaker bar to loosen the nut on the blades. Can you say over kill? My old Murray tractor allowed me to take the grass chute completely off if mulching. It really cuts down on mowing time. Why can't I remove the damn chute from my Troy Bilt? BTW if you support the deck with a couple of 2x4's it makes installation a lot easier.

Hope you didn't take the deck off to change the blades? Simply jack the mower up and use impact from underneath. Also, remove the blower shroud by using 2) 7/16 wrenches to remove the one bolt and nut on top of deck that attaches it. This will allow you to get closer to the trees. Removing shroud will also let the mulch plug easily fit. Total job about 20 minutes and no cursing required.

Great video! Thanks! Was having the same problem. Bought the mulching kit on amazon for the Bronco and the plug was wrong. Called MTD customer service, they told me they don't sell anything through amazon so it was possible that amazon packed the wrong plug. I gave them the model number for the tractor and they assured me they would send the correct kit. Kit came today, It's the same one that I came from Amazon! My wife found your video and I called MTD and am returning their kit, gave them the new model number from your video, and ordered just the correct plug, part 631-05195. Told them to fix their manuals, on-line parts info, and computer database. Hope they will....

I had the same experience. The part number you used did not match my ordeal but got me in the right track.Here is my story:
Model: 13WV78KS011
DOM: 4/2015
I purchased the Bronco Riding Lawnmower at Lowe's and ordered a mulch kit at the same time. They ordered part # OEM-190-116. I had to return it because it was the wrong part (pre 2009). We used the owner's manual and ordered part # 19A30005OEM. Obviously it was also the wrong part since I am writing this. Thanks to you, I tracked down the right part # 19A70041OEM and discovered the owner's manual (shipped with the unit) is in error.
My Murray is still running great (I work on small engines) but parts for the deck are getting hard to find since it was manufactured in 1995. There is not much support for a 20 year old mower. -
