can shimano 3×10 deore to 1×10?
-
Cant you just remove the big ring? It takes 4 bolts and thats it? or is something wrong?
-
where to buy the 2x ring conversion, i have a shimano xt hollow tech II 3x10 crank drive, i wanted to try the 2x set up.
-
That one right there is an Alivio M430 crankset. Did you have to change the chainrings in order to be able to use them with 10 speeds? Or was it 3x9 and after the conversion 2x9?
-
you can use the 20v

@albercuba they're conversion spacer tabs and you can find them here: https://wickwerks.com/products/conversion-spacer-tabs/

Does anyone know the name of the pieces he uses at 2:36 , so he does not have to get new shorter bolts?

I converted my MTB 3x10 to 2x10 Shimano SLX recently. However the front mech is a triple setup moving it down to suit the double chainset setup helps little as the FD is almost touching the frame. Do you have similar issue? I can't see clearly from your video there as you reuse back your FD.

surely this will not be the same as a dedicated two ring chainset as the rings will still be in the same place and therefore you will not be able to use every combination of gear in the small ring.

My bike had a 3x10 Shimano Deore crankset 24/32/42. I just bought a Shimano SLX 2x10 crankset 24/38. I'll have the same granny gear with the 24 ring but a higher gear to replace what was my middle ring. Wondering if should swap out the 38 for 32 to match what I had or just leave it as is. Thoughts?

I want to do this on my 3x9 but I'm curious about chainline and rub, specifically rub in the big ring/small cog combo. The middle ring/ small cog currently rubs on my 3x9 setup and I don't get how that wouldn't happen on the converted 2x9. I know how to set up/tune drivetrains, so that's not a concern.

Zach, the problem with just removing the big chainring is the length of the bolts, they would bottom out before securing the chainring. You can get shorter bolts that will work for attaching just one ring. The spacers simply take up the space the big ring used to occupy so the bolts will still get tight.

Is it possible to just take the big front ring off but still use the other 2 without getting new stuff?

We're in the process of filming several segments that address derailleur adjustment specifically. Stay tuned. And check out our YouTube channel, we do have one on adjusting chain length

A great video...except that it doesn't discuss the actual derailleur adjustment, it's lowering, or how to adjust the chain length.
