I built this monster cross bike for riding to/from local MTB trails. Monster cross bikes are relatively new on the scene. Lots of varying definitions of what they are. My definition is they are a cyclocross bike that is built up with components that would not be used for a racing bike. So this is my take on that style bike. For example, my tires are larger than the UCI mandated maximum tire size. I have a triple crank and much wider gearing than a race bike would have. I didn't build this bike for racing, I built it to get me to and from the local dirt trails with a minimum of effort and yet have enough control to be able to ride easy to moderate MTB trails safely. Here's the specifics of the build: Origin-8 CX700 56cm frame Front: Origin-8 headset Ritchey 80mm 30 degree stem Ritchey Biomax-Cross Road Bar 44cm wide Fizik gel handlebar tape Topped with shellaced cloth tape for more durability Cockpit: RetroShift brake lever/shifter combo Shimamo bar end shifters (BS78 - $62/eBay) Tektro Cross brake levers Barfly GPS mount, bike bell and Planet Bike headlight mount Wheels/tires: Stans ArchEX wheels Schwalbe 700x40 Marathon Mondail tires Tubeless w/ Stans sealant Brakes: Avid BB7 road disc brakes f/r Drivetrain: Shimano Crankset w/ Bottom Bracket SLX M660 175mm, 9sp. 42/32/22 20T small ring swapped for 22T 9 sp Front derailer bottom swing - XTR-M971 Shimano A530 platform/SPD pedals w/ studs Shimano SLX HG-62 Cassette (10-Speed) 11-36T Shimano Rapid Rise Rear Derailleur XT M770-SGS 10-spd. chain Shimano HG74 Saddle: Terry FLX Black Gel Saddle 27.2 mm XFusion HiLo seatpost In this video, I'll show how I set up the tires to run tubeless: https://youtu.be/zPZ2hyNC2Gs Be sure to rate, comment and share And as always, thanks for watching SOUNDTRACK: Louisiana Fairytale by Austin Rogers http://drfiddle.com/show_tune.php?id=94
