Marin celebrates its 30 year anniversary with a new bike that harkens back to the classic, well-liked model it shares its name with, the Pine Mountain. In the video below, we take a look at the 2016 Marin Pine Mountain 2. The Pine Mountain 2 has upgraded build specs and frame construction compared to the Pine Mounatin 1 that we took a close look at. Not only did we discuss those build specs and frame construction choices made by Marin, but also the possible applications for this 27.5 plus hardtail trail bike. Still got my 1995 Marin Palisade Trail bike. I've just never had reason to buy a new bike as its never broke and its so light!

tried a plus bike ( spez fuze ) absolutely hated it. Straight back to my stumpjumper EVO 29er ☺

Rode a Marin in the 90s for 1000s of miles on dirt and loved it. I really appreciate the Chrome Moly frame and modern features. Just started riding again and am zeroing in on this bike. Also like the price point. Great and informational review. Thanks.

Marin makes great bikes and one of the few companies that fabricates bikes in the US.

Honestly, I think the whole 1X thing is a bit pointless. Maybe I am wrong, Ilive in BC and there may well be lots of places where 1X makes sense but not here, not for a general mountain bike or something like this Marin.
I just don't see any big advantage. Weight? I guess but I certainly don't think reliability is an issue with a front shift system.
IMO a 1X is good for 2 groups, racers who know what they will need for a course and people who live where there are no real hilly terrain.
I am not even a fan of 2X because it just eliminates all the benefits of having the less gear option by having to have a derailleur and shifter. IMO once you have to have that why not have the extra granny? Weight is just a ridiculous reason at this point, its not like shifting will be any smoother or easier than having a normal 3X set up.
For a bike packing bike or a sort of one bike quiver a traditional 3X makes the most sense. My bike is a 20er hardtail designed for XC but tuned for more trail duty with the choice of tires, stem and handle bar. Its quite light but I still very much need a granny with many of the climbs. Not having a granny gear simply would eliminate a bunch of trail climbimg in my area. -
Nice!
Hate to say it but Marin has been off the radar for a long time which is sad considering their name in the 90s as being one of THE California brands. They seemed as popular as Trek and GT back then.
Its good to see a Marin that has new technology combined with what people liked about their bikes back when with the visual graphics, steel frame and latest wheel size. This bike looks like a winner. Hope Marin comes out with more of this. -
What's with the zooming in on the hands??? What's that got to do with the bike? Weird...
Clips of on-trail riding would've been nice. -
Very nice bike!
