Having lighter wheels will be more relevant for your performance as having a lighter Frame because the mass of the wheel is rotating.
-
I was hoping this was more a comparison between where to store things, cuz you can get a small backpack to store snacks/drinks/tools etc.. OR you can find space on your bike to store all that stuff, I was wondering which storage option would be faster overall. Like 500g extra on bike, or 500g extra on body.

Ummm where does GMBN get all the $$$ from to buy all the expensive carbon bikes??? Or does each rider pay for their own? If so maybe I'll work at GMBN!
-
the body weights was always going lose as that directly affects your w/kg. lightening your bike won't improve your w/kg (as much as we all wish it would 😂). love you canyon hardball 👍

light bike, light body duhhhhhhhhhhhhh
-
Of course you went slower carrying the weight, your total weight was 6.5KG more. Percetnage of bike weight or body weight is irrelevent, it's the total system weight that counts.
Test should have been done with same weight added to bike or the rider. This would have been interesting. i.e. is it better to carry your water in bottles on the bike, or in a camelbak. I usually love what you guys at GMBN do, but this was just stupid. -
Guys, I really enjoy all of your videos ... keep up the good work! But here, the real question is: Is it better to carry, say, 2 liters (2 kg) of water on our back or on the bike ? (comparing performances on +1 kg vs +7kg does not lead to much).

Ugly truth! :'(

Well it's bloody obvious a lighter bike will hill climb better and accelerate faster . You don't need a test for that . Descending on a heavier bike is only quicker as it allows the bumps to be absorbed more and so a lighter bike will actually be slower .....unless the surface is 100% smooth . Light bike for the win .
-
As a guy that could stand to lose about 100lbs, I guess it's encouraging to know I don't need to lose money on a light bike until I lose weight on a heavy one.
-
You should have climbed a climb of known steady gradient using a powermeter to ensure there was at least some semblence of keeping some variables the same, and done it on a dry day so by the time the third test was done the rider wasn't 3 kilos heavier from water ingress. Why bother whether the bike or the man is 10% heavier, it is all mass which must be pushed upwards, but a man of slim build would have a very hard time losing 10% of his weight without losing muscle mass and therefore power, which makes that choice of weights a bit daft- why not pick 2kg for both man and bike and see what happens- except the Exceed might snap as happened to my unfortunate friend...
-
You don't go faster with more weight because of extra grip, F=MA, weight actually allows a higher speed downhill. If anything cornering is harder because of the forces, especially with just extra weight strapped to your body that is not muscle.
-
This is why I didn't spend an extra $2,000 to get the full carbon version of my bike, which is only about a pound lighter. I figure I could just drop a pound or two from my body weight and it would be more or less the same difference for my type of riding. The most important and influential piece of any bike is the rider.

Sounds to me like: "If you're a little overweight, downhill is the way to go" ;)

What the fuck? You plowed your malware into my viewing of Just for laughs. Fuck you and your fuckin' bikes. Your channel sucks.

great video. And what about the weight carry on the backpack or on the bike (water, tools, pump, spare tube, etc?)
-
i wonder, why scotty did not fixed the 1 kilo weight to the top of
his top tube, it was about to be fun. it is obvious fixing it down the
bottom bracket it will only help him.... -
How about redoing this test with the "Heavy bike" and added body weight and then drop the weight one by one, that would represent the majority of us with heavy bikes and a bit over weight
-
Did you guys set the suspension up for the vest
