How To Ride Dirt And Gravel On A Road Bike
Fahrräder, Tests, online, Rezensionen, Bewertungen
Gravel riding has become increasingly popular and with good reason - it's super fun! Find out how to ride the rough stuff with these tips. Click here to subscribe to GCN: http://gcn.eu/SubscribeToGCN You'd be surprised just how resilient road bikes are when it comes to taking on dirt roads. Matt and Simon climbed 8km of gravel on the Colle Delle Finestre on 23mm tyres. But the more time you want to spend off the beaten track, the more we'd recommend something in the region of a 28 or 30mm width. Aside from equipment, technique becomes all the more important on loose surfaces. Keeping a smooth pedalling action will help you maintain traction - staying in the saddle is often the best idea. Scanning ahead for the best line and braking smoothly in advance of corners will vastly decrease the chances of your wheels washing out from beneath you. I was riding to school one day and i take a back route that goes across a gravel road (I was on a mountain bike and I ride this hundreds of times) I to a turn to fast and sharp and my bike just flew out from under me, I got some road rash on my knees and arm and hand and I got back up on my bike and rode the rest of the way to school

Gravel is my absolute favorite discipline next to mountain biking, but I hate washboarded hills so much. I can climb them all day, but going down one takes nerves of steel and a spine made of rubber.

+Leon Shaner you should watch and bookmark this video. We don't want you to get hurt again.
BTW, +Global Cycling Network, I could grow the beard, but my wife hates it when I do, as she expressed at LAX after she flew home from Heathrow. Before she even said hello. -
Can we have a "Pro-tips on how to turn pro - What does it take?" I've only ridden a few months but already done nearly 100miles and I'm trying to organise getting a standard chainset on my bike because I'm spinning out of a compact without ever using the lowest 2 gears

To be honest, I would always use a CX bike. The tire pressure for a road bike is to hard for such roads.
-
No mention of tyre pressure. Riding on gravel with 120psi tyres is not much fun.
-
Now we need a video on how to clean gravel from brake blocks, and sand from every nook and cranny of the bike... :P
-
Ride vintage bikes for fun! Larger tyres fit well on those ;)

Does anyone else hear the Mountainbikers laughing in the background?
