How To Replace A Bicycle Chain
Fahrräder, Tests, online, Rezensionen, Bewertungen
The chain on your bike wears out over time and eventually you'll have to replace it. Fortunately, the process is pretty simple - Simon shows you how. Click here to subscribe to GCN: http://gcn.eu/SubscribeToGCN First thing to do is find out whether your chain is joined together with a pin or with a quick link. If you have a quick link then technically you can remove the chain with your bare hands. Bear in mind though that when it comes to re-sizing your chain, you can only cut it down to the right size with the use of a chain tool. If you don't have your old chain to hand, or if you've changed your gear ratios and need a new size of chain, we've also got a failsafe way of finding the correct chain length for your bike! It's best to check for chain wear on a regular basis - leave it to long and it will damage your whole drivetrain. Music: IO - Chocolate Buy GCN Cycling Kit! You forgot to mention to NOT push the pin all the way through which I did
I was struggling for 2 hours trying to get that little pin back into the chain, after 2 hours I just gave up and threw the chain in the bin and bought a new one -
Dear Si,
Dan's video is suggesting 1 full link while you are suggesting 2 full links. I suppose the newest one is the more correct one but I wanted to ask you, just to be sure! :) Which one is a better solution for my chain length? #TorqueBack #AskGCNything
Cheers ! -
This comment, contains 1 million thank you's, for all the helpful tips you guys have given!!!!
Thank you! -
A good class on chain removal but you left out one important thing on installation. Nowhere in the video did not mention that the chain has a front and back. It is very important to put the chain on with the pins facing in towards the wheel. Why didn't you put that in the video. Also you showed cutting off the link pin with a pair of pliers when that Park chain breaker tool has a feature that lets you insert the pin that is sticking out into the Park tool and snap it off with ease. I suggest you redo this video and include these items.

Wow, that made making changing my chain easier than I thought. Thanks!

So Dan has another way of doing this. Which way is correct?! Do we measure or do we count the chain rings?! Dan says count, you say put them side by side and cut! What the fuck do we do! Delete the wrong one!!

Very helpful video. Please can I get a link to this exact pair of pliers. I need to remove my chain link to better clean it.

Thanks - very helpful!

How often should I replace the chain? Do I need to replace the cassette as well?
-
Great videos, thank. I just installed a new dura ace 11 speed chain, I have the writing on the chain facing out. But I think I put the chain upside down??? The writing is upside down. Or does it matter. Please help

Thank you. Very well explained it seems, I will save some money and attempt this on my own now.

Just cleaning my chain, want to take it off, have a quick link. Can I reuse the quick link? Or should I buy new??
-
How many times can you reasonably split and rejoin (using appropriate joining pin) a Shimano 10 speed chain?
-
Just replaced my chain with your help. Thanks GCN!

is the way Simon measured out the chain with the alternate method the same for every chain? Power link or pin? Always two links?
-
HAHA Oh yeah all I have to do is get my chain tool! I don't even own a socket wrench.
-
this really help me

I accidentally started to remove a pin, realized that the chain wasn't fully on the big cog. can I just push the pin back in or have I ruined my chain? I have pushed it back in and now removed the right link, all looks ok but am worried that it might break on me

my bike chain is the quick link chain and I've already detached the proper amount of links to fit my bike. My quick link wont fit in the hole to its counter part piece; it doesn't line up.
