Don't you need to compensate for the rear suspension as well, when sizing the chain with the rear derailleur ?

"alright, were going to put that about there, and then this should go about there and then this should go right about here."
very, very descriptive -
you have to remember, their concept for measuring the chain...is to 'stretch/tighten the chain to "the farthest distance AWAY" from the bottom bracket'...to get you correct distance/length measurement...
this was you've expanded your chain to the absolute longest distance, and don't forget to compress your suspension (rear usually only needed) to its maximum...in other words, "bottom-it-out"...! This way that's the maximum legit needed for your particular set-up/system...
so usually it's the chain length at it max, +2... (I've heard it's 2 for mtn and 1 for road, plus the lock link...is what you ad once you've figured your max distance, ie: largest cog (rear derailleur gear), and largest top gear in the front, {obviously if you have say a 22-32-42, or a 28-42...42 is gonna be the largest tooth [but lowest gear] not to confuse you more?}
please note: if you DO NOT measure to your suspension's maximum compression. . .
...you WILL run the risk of 'snapping' your chain...and on say coming off a jump, cliff or even curb?! This my friend spells disaster and could even be fatal...should. this situation arise?! Best IMO to ALWAYS PRACTICE ON THE SIDE OF "SAFETY"!!! (Better safe then sorry!)
hope that helps and explains it a little more...? (as with anything else, it's a learning process/curve?!)
Best of luck!
Peace,
...always!

I'm finding that a lot of these chain replacement videos are a little vague when it comes to measuring the chain. Some say slacken of the rear shock, then some videos say measure the chain plus two sections.

Moi j'ai rien compris, c'est chiant mais chiiiiiant un vélo :) Je rêve d'un VTT ou t'as plus rien à faire en mécanique, moi ça me gonfle :D

Definitely the best out there, I was struggling getting the Master link to click in place, this video showed 'how to' perfectly :)

this video is great help, thanks mate!

The way SRAM road chains are shortened and linked together are the same for both mountain and road. Determining the chain length is different however. We will have a video on SRAM road chain installation soon!

is it the same as sram road chain ?
