How To Clean, Degrease and Lube a Bike Chain
Fahrräder, Tests, online, Rezensionen, Bewertungen
I explain and show how to clean, degrease, and lubricate a bicycle chain. It is easy to do, and takes only about 10 minutes from start to finish and will keep your bike chain running smooth for many miles of riding. I demonstrate using one of my mountain bikes, but this applies to road bikes, triathlon bikes, recumbents, or whatever other type of bikes you have. In the video, I am using a Park Tools CM-5 (or CG-2) chain cleaning tool. This is the chain scrubber tool I used: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B007HDNOT2/ref=nosim/youtube25-20 Check out my new HD chain cleaning video at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hXa07DWoKU **If the video was useful or interesting please give it a "thumbs up" and consider subscribing. -Website: http://www.RJTheBikeGuy.com -Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/RJTheBikeGuy -Subscribe Here: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=shyflirt1 -YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/RJTheBikeGuy

I have been advised to use some mechanic type oil for stuff like industrial machines cars motors, in a way that you just soak it in and let it stay for a bit then get it out let it drip of the execess and clean it with a rag, do you think this would work? Btw that oil is really cheap, like 5 times cheaper than bike specific oil

The muc off drivetrain cleaner i was using was 20 bucks a bottle, after watching your videos I finally found Zepp Heavy duty citrus degreaser in home depot, it was 5 bucks a bottle. I will try it out next time the chain getst dirty and tell you how they compare. The muc off was absolutely amazing at getting the chain clean, it will be a good test for the zepp degreaser.

Why is the video out of focus? Why is your pie plate still on?!? I can't watch more than 1 minute.

Great video and thanks for sharing. I wouldn't get upset for the philosophic and ADHD syndrome comments that some leave in here. You get those all the time.
If i may ask? What kind of oil lube would work best? I have air compressor tools oil but not sure if i could use it.
Thanks again -
shit video

check out my video on how to do this without a chain cleaning tool, nothing wrong with this video, its just not what some of us are looking for. thx anyways RJ!..

Is it okay to use plain kerosene to degrease the chain?
-
I'd worry more about cleaning your deck than the chain dude.
-
or just remove the chain leave it in soak ocvernught in parafin then dip it in lube and fling off the excess
-
i prefer to use oil based paint thiner and polyester rags for cleaning from what i understand that stuff will not only eat grease off the chain but steel too not a lot but if you think about it you widen the gaps between all the little pins and fittings for more dirt to get in to them

Just some thoughts from a guy who is starting to service his wife's bikes but is a retired engineer. I agree with Jimbo S that there are other solvents that are less expensive and work extremely well. I use diesel fuel, which is an excellent gunk solvent but also leaves a lubricating film on and inside the links. I try to remember that a chain is a series of internal and external bearing surfaces. Not good to clean a bearing without almost immediately protecting it from surface corrosion.

you fuck up your floor, man!
-
As a side note - oil totally f_cks up disc brake pads.
-
Is there a reason for one drop per loop? Can't you just pour on it as you run the chain through?

maaan lmao thats what tooth brushes, hand towels, latex gloves and lithium grease is for. Only chemicals ill ever use on my bike is liquid wrench/wd40. I pamper my bike, Ill become as dirty as I made it to make it clean🙌🙌
