this workshop looks pretty sterile ;)

my old chain was skipping from mid front cog to the lowest front gear ,when the gear was on the biggest cog in the rear derailleur , i was so mad , i couldn't find a solution for it, then i changed the chain , and its now shifting perfectly .

I have always had 2 chains for my cross country bike and after each ride I take one off, put it in a plastic box with oil in it and let it sit over night. Mount the new one so its ready to go. The day after I take it out of the oil bath, clean it with a rag and it comes out like brand new. Put some chain oil on it and it's ready for the bike. I run my bike in everything from muddy to dusty conditions, this way the drivetrain last me a lot longer than my lazy friends. Got this tip from a mechanic at the local bike shop 10 years ago and it has had a big impact on maintainance cost.

I just changed my chain and when I pushed it on the 11'12 cogs it jumped, so I need a new cassette right? But how do I check the the front rings please? Thanks

I ride DH and iv just gone through a sram xg1195 cassette, 3 sets of pads, pcxx1 chain in 2 months :(
-
How long would it take to stretch?
-
I'm off to buy a new chain ... in the hope it's been too long and I have to upgrade :D
-
totally agree with you!
-
i'd love to have that workshop
-
don't really need that tool, just a steel tape measure would do the job well.

I started some repair work on my bike yesterday and now need parts. Always been kind of a gear head, I suppose ( : , makes me feel a little vain. The last thing I worry about is me being able to handle it. I'm more worried about throwing the baby out with the bath water, so to speak. It's up to those who can see the future, they will guide me or someone else to if or we will ever do anything.

Thank you so much. I recently fell of my bike because the chain was too worn out and i didn't replace it. I didn't think is so that worn because I've only been riding for a year. But the chain was cheap I guess. I have a single gear bike.

thats alot of gears on there damn
-
Yep, best advice out there. A new chain costs about £15, changing the chain once every few months will save having to change chain, cassette and chainrings combined. That adds up to an expensive shock. Happy riding.
-
on my last bike my chain was worn out really bad it kept jumping between gears had to replace chain ring and get new cog as well it was expensive plus I never looked after the chain properly so I would defo recommend getting one of them tools and make sure the chain is clean and you use correct lube for it
-
It's made by Unior, so you should head to their website and use the stockist finder.
-
Where can you buy that tool from ?
-
Good advice, had a chain break on me once when i was a kid........i ate shit big time
-
Yup, good point to add. Also that people are better replacing chain before wears cassette and chain and cassette before they wear chainrings.
