I'm putting together a Dolan L'Etape frameset at the moment. I've figured out where all the headset bearings etc go but I'm defeated by the locking star-nut it came with. I cant even get it to fit in the steerer tube?

The title of this video should mention that this is specific for threadless headsets.

You mean to tell me that after all these years of cycling with a rocking headset like that on my bike, THAT'S HOW YOU TIGHTEN IT?!?!?!?! That top plate? Seriously? I feel like an imbecile.

Something I always do after changing/renewing headset bearings is to take the wheel out again and ensure the bearings are not too tight, is to rotate the bars left/right and feel if they are too stiff! You'll not feel the stiffness if the wheel is still fixed in.

What specific type of grease would you recommend that we can buy in the shops or order from the web? Would you recommend the Motorex Bike Grease 2000 or are there any other car specific Calcium based greases that are also good for our goal?
