How to Bleed Shimano Disc Brakes – Mountain Bike Maintenance
Fahrräder, Tests, online, Rezensionen, Bewertungen
Here Neil runs you through bleeding your Shimano mountain bike disc brakes. This is a job you should do every now and again when your brakes start to feel spongy or less powerful Click here to subscribe to GMBN: http://gmbn.eu/Subscribe Keep your brakes running perfectly with Neil's step by step pro guide to bleeding your brakes. One thing to be aware of is that Shimano brakes use mineral oil, not DOT like most other manufacturers. When you bleed your brakes, you need to remove your pads – this will prevent you contaminating the pads with oil. Some good things to have to hand when you're doing this job are a disc brake cleaner, alcohol wipes, a couple of zip ties (or go old-school and use a toe-clip strap) and some rubber gloves – disc brake fluid can be nasty stuff. -
Hell no. This is all I needed to go with mechanical brakes.
-
that's why I like mechanical brakes.

I like how their rear shocks alone cost almost as much as my whole bike! Life of a pro, having sponsors and all

It was funny how he kept saying nipple

Will a Sram or Avid bleed block fit a Shimano brake caliper?

I use a syringe with a length of airline and an upturned plastic dropper
bottle with the bottom cut out screwed into the reservoir. All I had
to buy was the syringe as opposed to fifteen pounds for the bleed kit,
an airline connector with the correct thread would be another good
option for attaching to the reservoir. -
I'm new to disc brakes. Upgrading soon to a hydraulic disc brake bike after using V-brakes for over 10 years and just watching videos about disc brakes etc. How often is bleeding of the brakes needed and for what purpose? This looks pretty complex..

#AskGMBN I've tried the last suggestion in the video to do the quick way. Should i be suspicious if after I've attached the funnel and start pumping the brake absolutely nothing happens with the mineral oil that I put in the funnel? No air bubbles, no black oil. Did try giving the cable a good tapping and still nothing at all. My brakes are OK but they feel like they could be improved with bleeding. I've only just replaced the pads too.

Thanks guys. I'm sure my LBS hates how easy you make routine maintenance on my bike for me, but I really appreciate it. I love doing my own work on my bike
-
How much mineral oil is needed to fully bleed one brake and where can i buy mineral oil in quantities of less that 1L?
-
This is one of the best maintenance videos you guys have done!! My favourite - top job +Neil Donoghue

What does the free stroke adjustment do. I have my pads to close to a 203mm disk and when I hit a bump in the road the discs hit the pads and makes a awful sound. Is free stroke a solution to the problem?
