Focus Raven Max Factory 29 - Fully-Rigid, Deadly & Fun

You could be forgiven for thinking Focus' fully rigid 8.25kg XC bike looks a little bit mental. We certainly did, but our man Jon Woodhouse loves it anyway.

Got a focus Raven 27,5. It's incredibly fun to ride and 27,5 wheels aren't as under steering as 29er version.

Love my rigid. Brings me back 30 or so years to when I was a kid shreding trails on my bmx race bike.
-
it used to be like that :) I started on a fully rigid. and yes, it improves skills
-
riding a light rigid bike like that is a lot more fun with flat pedals IME
-
anyone know how much it cost?

29" wheels and no suspension. Road only use for anyone who isn't 8 stone and 5'6.

not sure why people are so against all ridged bikes? I just bought the 2016 Raleigh Redux 1 full ridged and its great. Sure not something you want to take on the hardest off road trails but good for road and medium level off road. Ive taken it on trails I probably shouldnt have and i came out a stronger proud rider. People today are spoiled by suspension and too worried about weight..

This fits perfect to trails around where I live. In Denmark we have an "extra" category of mountain bikes called Forest Racers (basically a full ridgid, long stem, steep angled and short wheel based super light XC-bike). Because the terrain here is generally flat (with the mandatory roots and puddles of forest floor black mud) and when you do find a hill in the woods it usually pretty steep. So focus for going fast is acceleration, deceleration, very sharp turns, quick short ascends and the rest of the time pump all you got into flat out straight and narrow trails top speed pedaling.

Interesting you don't like the Race King??

Seriously light tha bike, my road bike is not much lighter and thats full carbon disc too. Awesome.

I ride a Soma Wolverine on said sketchy single track and descents. It's more fun in the short term because there is so much more involved for things that would be easy on a full squish, however on really long rides it's almost nightmarish when you have to hit a rock garden after 40km and your hands are about to fall off.
I still think MTBers should try riding trail no squish as you develop skills you wouldn't on a full squish bike. -
racing tires are so good, they aren't scethy

Whats a mountain bike without suspension??? 😅😅😅😅
-
LOL ...another bouncy rider that scared himself ;) ...rigid is real, suspension is for the lazy ;)
-
I recently got back into mountain biking and built up a rigid set up due to lack of cash,it burns the single track up like nothing else. I won't be putting a suspension fork on,I just run low pressure in the front to take the buzz out of the ride and your set.
Nice review. -
WHAT ARE THOOOOSE?!?!!???
