thank u sir...

tried hammering in the new star nut with the bolt in. couldn't get it straight. screw driver thru the star nut works a treat.
-
Another way to remove the star nut is DRILL THE FUCK OUT IT!!!!!! Works as well as the hammering it down method.
-
keeping the top cap on with the bolt gets a nice true alignment
-
11mm long socket. Insert bolt every few smacks to make sure its square. Make corrections but striking the socket where necessary. Be patient.
-
I use a socket that just fits down in the steerer tube, works perfect and the star nut goes in straight
-
You could use a screwdriver instead of the bolt, that would damage nothing.
-
And to think, you could have fitted a hope hed doctor, and not fucked your steerer, what was it once said? Oh yeah, doh!
-
Never been a fan of threadless headsets. I think we need a hybrid standard of threaded headsets with modem clamp on stems. This will get rid of the annoying little split rings that never stay put between the steer tube and bearing
-
I just came here to watch Neil whack is nut?!
I need to get a life!! -
"Slightly on the wonk..." Bahaahahaa!!!!
-
why don't you use a screwdriver it worked very well for myself and i'd rather not break my bolt i use to tighten down the cap
-
personally ,,, hope head doctor
-
If the proper tools is not available I use and old stem, cap and the screw to keep the star nut straight, safer than the free hand method.
-
Best thing I've found for star nuts to set them in is a 10mm deep each socket. perfect fit on the inside of the leaves and goes on nice and straight.
-
A star nut tool costs £10. Nuff said...
-
i just still cant get it replaced...its just to hard
-
Not the best method.
Removing the star nut is easier and quicker if you drill it out. Increase the drill bit size with each pass starting at 6mm.
Most installation tools set the star nut at 15mm depth. Hammering it in is a terrible way to do it and the inexperienced will always end up with the nut on the wonk. A nut installation tool is quite inexpensive and worth investing in IMO. -
This video came out just after i had fitted my starnut into my fork
