Di2 with Q-Rings

This Video depicts how the Shimano Di2 Front Derailleur works with Rotor Q-Rings 52/36. The setup comprises a Trek Madone (2010) and a beautiful Rotor 3D Crank set with 172.5mm length. Installing and adjustment was a bit tricky for me, because the builder of the bike had cut the cable for the front derailleur so shortly that I had to return the bike to him that he could correct his bad work. He also installed the crank set and adjusted the derailleur. Adversity is the school of wisdom. Lucky me checked the setup before starting the test-drive. Everything was configured so badly that I had to completely readjust it. Getting it working was however quite easy at last. Thanks to the Di2 only 5 minutes of work. However, the number of possible sprockets is still limited. The front derailleur seems to be unable to see the small ring in all positions. That's why I cannot use the upper 5 rear sprockets so far. I have however got all sprockets working with the large ring. That's OK for the moment. I'm quite impressed by the smooth running of the chain with Q-rings installed and how well the Di2 is able to switch between both rings. Quite impressing, because I had heard that Q-Rings wouldn't work with Di2. That's definitely not true as the vid shows. To be honest it even runs smoother than the old Dura Ace FC-7950 crank set did, which was getting on my nerves with constant noise. What I really love about the Rotor stuff is that you can combine ring-sizes however you like. (Thanks to the nice guys who gave me the hint!) I decided to mount a 52/36 set with my Compact 110mm crank set. If I want to change back to 50, I will only have to exchange the single ring, not the whole crank set.

I'm thinking of this chainring setup. Did you manage to get the remaining 5 rear sprockets into gear? Otherwise I'm out.

Cool video! helps alot :D
but does it also shift as smooth as in the video if you're in a light gear in the cassette?
I have problems with shifting with my sram red chainrings and a ultegra di2 group... -
Bradly rides o-symetric or Q-rings, so not only has someone in tdf ridden them, they have been ridden to victory :) Also, many teams other teams has the option to use them, very popular on time trials as well :p

so, it got struck sometime right ?

You'll have to look better then.

sounds awful

im using the campagnolo super record eps. and after cenuries of tuning i finally got it to work. however, i need to ease up on the pedals before the chainrings shifts from the small to the big ring. i need all the input i can get regarding this issue. pls email me through shintarovaldes@gmail.com

with the qrings work with the ultegra di2 wth shimano crank arm i will be using a compact 110 34/50

Exactly correct. For the same reason many mechanics, unknowing both systems, recommend not (!) using Q-Rings or on of the other similar systems. I had an awkward discussion with one of the national team's mechanics myself. Shows how well informed some people are…

Biopace is the opposite of q-rings. It made the gear harder in the dead spot.

Biopace is back???

When shimano introduced those rings 20+ years ago the weren't any good then either. bad for the kness.
