Continuously Variable Transaxle (CVT) Operation
Fahrräder, Tests, online, Rezensionen, Bewertungen
Weber State University (WSU) - Automotive Technology Department - Transmission Lab. GM Continuously Variable Transaxle (CVT) model VT25. How a belt-driven CVT Works. Ford, GM, Honda, Chrysler (JATCO), and Nissan CVTs are similar. CVTs allow the engine to operate at the RPM for peak efficiency while increasing and decreasing the transmission drive ratio to change vehicle speed. This video helps satisfy NATEF Task A2.C.23. "Describe the operational characteristics of a continuously variable transmission (CVT)", a priority 3 task. eCVTs are different and are demonstrated in another WeberAuto video. Download the VT25 Range Reference Chart here: http://www.weber.edu/wsuimages/automotive/ASEP/VT25%20Range%20Reference%20Chart.pdf http://www.weber.edu/automotive This video was created and edited by John D. Kelly at WSU. Based on the original DAF belt driven CVT from back in the old days

can someone please help me . I have a 2005 ford five hundred awd it has a cvt transmission I have had nothing but problems with this car . first it was making noise when I would coast a low speed and I had a couple shops tell me the rear differential was bad but then all a sudden car quit making noise and seem to be fine so I didnt worry about it . then I took car to have oil changed right off the bat I thought my car sounded different but but I was .n everything was fine then my car started jerking like then my wrench light would come on and check transmission light came on. auto zone told me it wad reading a problem with the transmission range sensor . I have took my car to every shop and to ford dealer ship and no one can seem to tell me exactly whats wrong with my car.if it is the transmission that needs rebuild then I don't want to waste money .now my car seems like its having a hard tine moving . it just takes a minute for it to actually get up to speed. Someone pleAs tell me if there is something that could cause this

Great video -thanks. I know nothing about the details of transmissions. One question. I may be misinterpreting your video and the term CVT but to me a car with 4 forward gears and a CVT is meaningless. Are there truly a large number of forward gears or is it still limited to 4? Maybe the car driver can select one of the 4 manually but when in drive, the car figures out which of the endless number of 'gears' to be in.

well done.

How do the steel belts grip the smooth pulleys tho? That's what I can't wrap my brain around. It's not like a chain & cog, and unlike a serpentine or V belt system with rubber belts that use friction to grasp the pulleys (torque will make them slip tho), steel on steel is not very tractive, and it also gets lubricated via nozzles spraying transmission fluid... so how do the belt grip the pulleys, especially under higher torque conditions????

AMT is lot superior and simpler than CVT as it does not requires any changes to the standard Manual clutch and Transmission.

Do you feel that CVTs still have reliabilty problems over the long term?

as a 2013 altima owner: piece of shit.transmission gone at 113,000 miles.car was perchaced new. 1.2 million complaints and recalls on this transmission.

great demonstration......
Could I ask if there can be an instructional video of MB type with....
how RPM sensor 1 signal and RPM sensor 2 interact in conjunction with the actual Transmission>> -
and how about dual cvt
-
how about m/t cvt?

I'm no engineer but looking at that system it seems no wonder people complain about them giving problems in their cars. Some people say Subarus feel a bit terrible on steep grades.

Wow, nice video, I watched so many videos about this but I didn't understand but you did so good I finally understand.

Hi all, looking for some opinions on CVT noise - high pitched, whining
noise after 30min driving or so. The car was inveloved in rear end
accident - quite strong one. I have stopped on the lights and then car
hit me from the back at around 40km/h... also i was on the full break as
I just stopped - the car was pushed about 1 meter in front. since then
the high pitched, whining noise started. Now the insurance company
questions this and suggesting wear and tear... is there any thing
connecting and disconnecting when the car is stopped and can this
mechanism be damaged by heavy impact (rattle like) in the accident?
thanks m -
