Changing Bike Pedals - Stuck Pedal
Fahrräder, Tests, online, Rezensionen, Bewertungen
I replace the clipless pedals on a bike with platform style pedals. The right pedal was very hard to remove. Pretty close to seized. I believe it became partially welded to the crank arm through galvanic corrosion. After getting both pedals off, I install the platform pedals with a little bit of grease on the threads so they won't get frozen to the cranks. This is the Park Tool PW-4 Pedal Wrench I show in the video: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000W78V8E/ref=nosim/youtube25-20 **If the video was useful or interesting please give it a "thumbs up" and consider subscribing. -Website: http://www.RJTheBikeGuy.com -Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/RJTheBikeGuy -Subscribe Here: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=shyflirt1 -YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/RJTheBikeGuy

very helpful. thank you

same problem as mine. but my pedals dont have a flat to put a 15 wrench on. the allen key i think made the problem worse by destroying the slot. tried using vise to noq avail. now i dont know how to remove it. heating is kinda out of the question because of the black arms

i needed this cause i noticed one pedal is sealed a bit with possible cprrosion qnd i love how informational this was i learned a lot thx

solved it. thanks!

I just put my leg behind the pedal for leverage and used a rubber mallot hammer to hit the 15 mm wrench and it came off much easier versus struggling with it using a cheater bar or using a piece of wood. It worked for me if anybody ever wants to use this method if u dont ever have any other tools available at ur disposal.

Mine are tight as fuck. Tried several methods. ended up rounding the flats. Vise grips didnt work either. Im sure a nuke wouldnt work either. Anyone else in the same boat? Thanx for sharing anyhow.

I was struggling for hours trying to change my pedals. Then I saw your video and realized that they screw off in opposite directions! Grrrrrrr! Thanks for the tip!

Just wondering RJ what would happen if I put a left side pedal on the right and the right side pedal on the left?
-
why don't you use a pedal wrench? Way more leverage..such a tool is a lot heavier and is much a longer than what you are using....i have used a park tool pedal wrench over the years and there is no pedal that i have not been able to remove.

Thanks for your help...all the way from Ireland

Thanks for the leverage tip.

this worked amazing I used 3 garden stakes as the wood though but I was able to do it in about 5 minutes compared to the 30 minutes I spent trying to get it off earlier

I broke one pedal wrench, and stripped another crescent wrench and the pedal nut itself. It's welded for good.

Thanks. Trying to salvage a new Shimano Saint crank that was cross-threaded by some dumb-ass (me). The crank was again stuck, after having it re-threaded, but I can still feel the left pedal is pointing not so straight. Trying a pedal washer, and if that doesn't help, I will toss it.

-
Thank you for not using the special tool.
