http://www.texasmountainbiketrails.com/Hydration-Pack-or-Water-Bottle When you're out riding the trails, what do you use to get a drink of water? You have basically got two options, a water bottle or a hydration bladder otherwise known as a Camelbak. Get the full scoop on which one is better by visiting http://www.texasmountainbiketrails.com/Hydration-Pack-or-Water-Bottle A water bottle is great for short rides or road rides, because it is so simple to use, lightweight and quick to prepare. But while it is simple and easy, it also requires you to take 1 hand off the handlebars to drink. Hydration bladders or Camelbak's on the other hand are incredibly convenient to drink from on the bike, but the preparation time and weight is much greater. Find out which method I prefer by visiting Texas Mountain Bike Trails | Race Day Hydration: Bottles or Bladders http://www.texasmountainbiketrails.com Texas Mountain Bike Trails helps new mountain bikers learn tips and find trails in Texas. The rule of thumb is drinking 1L of water every hour of riding, which personally translates to about 15-20miles for me. I will use my camelbak insulated 750ml water bottle for any ride up to around 15-20 miles. And further than that, I take my hydration bladder. In fact, the last time I rode 50miles, I finished 2 liter in my hydration bladder half way through at my turnaround point after 1.5 hours on the saddle. I find myself drinking water more frequently, and staying hydrated much easier. My hydration bladder is extremely comfortable even holding 2L of water, even with my degenerative disc disease problem.
For me, the benefits of hydration packs:
-Easier access. This is different than saying water bottles are hard to use, it's simply easier to use a water bladder.
-Holds more water.
-hold other stuff like spare tube, pump, patch kit, a multi tool, food, even a bike lock if I plan on going into the city for food or whatever.
-Great for unsupported rides, which I assume most of us are doing... that way you don't have to stop to refill water as often, keep your momentum going, and the joy of riding flowing.
-Don't need to take a second off the road to reach for your bottle or tilt your head up to drink water. We all know how quick an accident can occur, especially if you're riding in a group.
Why choose water bottles:
-Easier to refill. It can be a pain fumbling with your water bladder trying to fill it up with some trail side water station.
-grab and go, nothing on your back means it just feels more free.
-Apparently other road bikers might laugh at you for using a water bladder because.... well I don't know why. They say it makes you look like an novice. -
I do not use either right now. I know I should. I think that a water bottle is not that easy to be grabbing and then putting back after a drink. I did try a bladder but also found it annoying for 2 reasons. 1st, I had to grab the hose to put it in my mouth and 2nd, when I let go of it, it would drip. Both seem annoying!

Hi! I have both camelbak and bottle, but I've never used any isotonic with camelbak becouse it's hard to clean. How do you clean yours?
-
My woman bought two bottles from slightly different price level. Both stink like plastic. Is that the same at expensive brands too? If so, how safe is to use them?
Regarding bladders: how's with the hygiene part at the hose? Do you have to boil it after every use or just wash it? -
I prefur water bottrls never could git a camel back to work right for me
-
I use both !! Camelback mule filled with water and bottle with Gatorade

This was really helpful. Thank you :)

for mtb definitely a hydration pack for road bikes i prefer bottles cause at least for me the position i ride my roadbike with a camelbak i get back pain
-
I like camelbak better. The bottle is harder to use and you have to look away from the road. Also, your hands are off the handlebars for much longer with a bottle and you have to straighten up from your natural riding position. My camelbak has good insulation and keeps things cold for several hours. The bladder is harder to clean though. Also, I worry that it may be less aerodynamic.

I won't drink out of plastic camelbaks or water bottles, both leech chemicals and estrogen nasty stuff...
-
i use camelback full of soda while playing ps4.

What do I think? Well, for one, I don't think that I'm a bloody camel, so there's that! And, further to that, I think it's just a drink of water and it should never be this complicated! If someone really needs to take a swig of the ol' H2O while riding, then maybe they should just pull over just git 'er done! It's just f'n water, dude!

Instead of watching the whole video just follow your personal preference.

I use hydration packs when ever I go for long rides and short one to because the hold a lot and stay cold
-
