Hi, Leo ! You are a briliant mind ! I have a simple question - if diameter of the turning wheel is bigger or in other words if ratio is not 40 to 1 but to say 400 to 1 will you produse the same amount of energy like in your case ? You pedal 55 times to generate 2200 RPM to generator with ratio 40 to 1 if ratio is 400 to 1 will you pedal only 5.5 times to same amount of energy ? This is logikal, but because you are inventor, I ask you.

if ya put a gear box between the bike and da alt ya dont hafta pedal so hard .... and if ifen ya can pedal fer an hour or so you can keep yer freezer werkin ...AND lose wait .....hahahahagagaga

why dont u talked abt current? the current that comes out from alernator does not matter whether its low or not? tell the current u had before inverter?

I always thought of one of these for something to charge a deep cell battery and combine it with other aspects of an off grid system. Use solar, wind and this to keep a large bank of batteries topped off while still having the ability to have a grid tie in the event that you just can't/won't peddle.

Looks great! How to you choose the belt? Obviousy it has to work with the pulley, but what about working with the rim of bike? Some sizes or styles better than others? I was just going to go with whatever I could get from the junkyard when I go to get the alternator. What length is good?

I've got a wireless knife that'll chop onions a whole lot easier than that.

On gas engine generators I have used a big spring to keep tension on the belt. Belt tension was always constant and changing belts took only a couple seconds. I used old GM engine frame mounts and ran a single bolt through the Delco alternator. Never had a problem with it and worked for quite a few years (built about 6 of them.)The big spring from Home Depot just wrapped up to the top of the alternator - the other end anchored on the wood base.

Wow, thank you for the explanation of the difference between alternator and generator. I've asked at least a dozen people over the years that have electrical related careers/self appointed experts and not 1 person could tell me. You are a valued asset and should be spared if zombies ever take over.

Hi Leo. I have a silly question about this video. I know your using a car alternator. But do you think its possible to use a gas powered generator motor then convert it to hydro powered generator instead of gas?
