Well I clicked on this video from a link from a bikers forum. The video is stupid, because it isn't practical. First off, riding your bike properly won't have anything happen to it. The video basically shows how much you would have to do to a bike to actually cause serious damage.
Carbon bikes are just plastic tubes wrapped in carbon fiber strands, that use a special bonding material which is heat treated. As long as your physical weight isnt to heavy, you have nothing to fear. I do have a Carbon bike I've been riding in Chicago now since 2009 and it only has a crack on the top tube, because I pulled a trailer with it, and when the trailer tipped over it caused the top tube to crack. But it didnt even crack all the way through, considering the trailer weights 40lbs and the kid inside was roughly 30lbs. I do try to not hit bumps, but obviously on city streets that si not possible always. I have ridden more than 100 miles in one direction with no issue. I have never had a fork fail either.
But I'm not saying it can't or won't happen. What I will say is choose a bike based on riding habits. If you cruise city streats, use a metal bike period. If you have places where you can ride that are very smooth or reasonably smooth, then use a carbon.
I just bought a Slice and the only place I will ride it is in the Forest Preserves where the paths are very smooth, have no holes and I dont have to worry about curbs, cars, potholes or similar.
The video is stupid because it shows that if you are an idiot and you are out to destroy a bike, its obvious you can.
The worse thing I had happen on my Carbon is I was drafting a guy very close and he wiped out in front of me. I had no time to react. A soon as I hit his bike, I flipped over end. I am surprised the forks did break or collapse. I check them and I saw no cracks and I have been riding it since and that was a year ago.
Whether carbon is truly stronger than steal will I guess depend on bike design. Carbon is fragile, but you wont break it from riding where its safer. The smoother the road the best off you are. -
Wenn ich mir also einen Rahmen zum "zerflexen" kaufen möchte sollte ich zu Stahl greifen. Gut zu wissen... thumbsup!

What the fuck are you saying hahahahaha!!!!

That was a perfect example why i am still using a steel frame for my daily use bike, and why still not bought a fancy carbon shit for my race XC bike...

Daumen hoch!
