2017 Haibike Updates from Interbike

On September 21st at Interbike Haibike unveiled some of its new 2017 products and I was able to hang out with the the family behind the brand. We talked about the origin of the company, it’s introduction of ePerformance electric bikes to the United States and what’s in store for the future. One of the big updates was a larger battery pack from both Bosch and Yamaha to extend rides. Susi gave me some background on Haibike, as the managing director of the Winora Group. The company was founded in 1996 when mountain bikes began gaining in popularity in Europe. In 2009 they transitioned more towards electric bikes and brought them over to the USA in 2010. Her great grandfather founded the company in 1920. All of the road style Haibikes come with integrated lights but it sounds like even the dirt ready off-road models are wired for it so you could add lights to them as well. Many models feature the new 500 watt hour battery packs from Bosch and Yamaha and if you own an older Haibike the batteries are backwards compatible. Haibike is now using numbers instead of letters to designate the levels of component specs so I saw some 6 and 8 levels vs SL and RX etc. Also, many of the models offer the plus size tires (3” diameter) which improves rider stability, confidence and traction… but also drag, so with more electric assist bicycles coming out these days and the added power they bring, we are seeing plus sizes because of the aforementioned benefits. One of my favorite ebikes there was the 37 lb Haibike XDURO FullSeven Carbon Ultimate that costs $16k… Wow, the thing was awesome and had electronic shifting in addition to full carbon wheels with solid spoke design like cast magnesium. Haibike also introduced an SDURO HardFour kids electric bike. It’s designed for younger riders and has a top assisted speed of 12 miles per hour to help keep them safe and support learning. The Haibike family team includes Susi Puelo and Tina Puelo, it was awesome to meet them in person!

Court, can Haibike Xduro nduro and All MTN to name just two - be used on city streets and for commuting without the 'bob' being a problem?

tell pee wee he can take the helmet off now

I wanted to see the bike hidden behind him on the lower stand just before he finished at 26:40 of the video. Where I live is very mountainous and we some times have to the smallest crank with the largest sprocket, me having 8 rings on my sprocket and the rings on my crank ridding a Jamis Durango mountain bike.

Started seeing these around the local trails.

I think that it is a horrible decision to try and make a battery and motor a visible. It's not a design instrument. It's an eyesore. :( The bikes look good but making those parts stand out ruins it all.

Ps I love the urban haibike! Just needs front suspension and it would be perfect for urban life ;)

Loving the new haibike range and it's really great to see a manufacturer reverse allow this year's bigger batteries to the older models, that's exactly what what us consumers love as less bragging rights and older model users can get a bit of the 17 year model for a fraction of the price of the new bike Well done Haibike!
