Review of my 2016 Trek Marlin 6 in Firebrand (orange) Traded this in for a 2017 Marlin 7: https://youtu.be/qtkn0H3sUh4 Links to Trek's site for bike and mods as seen in this vid: 2016 Marlin 6 (firebrand) cross country mountain bike http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/bikes/mountain-bikes/sport-mountain-bikes/marlin/marlin-6/p/2016600-2016 Bontrager RL Cage (gloss black) bottle cage http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/equipment/cycling-accessories/water-bottles-cages/bontrager-rl-cage/p/09664 Bontrager Rear Mount Kickstand http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/equipment/cycling-accessories/replacement-parts/bontrager-rear-mount-kickstand/p/12772 Bontrager Ion 35 LED light http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/equipment/cycling-accessories/bike-lights/bontrager-ion-35/p/12536 New saddle added since doing the vid: Bontrager Commuter Gel CRZ+ saddle http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/equipment/cycling-components/bike-saddles/bontrager-commuter-gel-crz/p/09875 Slight correction: at around the 2:00 mark I mention that for 2017 the Marlin 7 now comes in the same orange color as my 2016 Marlin 6 - however it's actually called "roarange" instead of "firebrand" and the one I saw in the bike shop looked more reddish orange than pure orange to me - I thought maybe it was just the lighting in the store but I saw a pic on some German website (USA website still has 2016 models) and they call it "roarange" and it's definitely a bit different IMO than the "firebrand". Just wanted to clarify this in case anyone out there is thinking of ordering a 2017 Marlin 7.

I ride the green and black version of this and i goes good but the rear derailer breaks way too easily for how I ride

My 2017 Trek Marlin 6 23in frame bikes on its way (29in wheel). Matt Sky Blue color. Will do a review when I get it.

I am pretty much interested in a 7 or 8 but noticed these bikes compare to a Gary Fisher line of mountain bikes but of less quality and more money. What's your opinion, by the looks I'm thinking about just keeping my present bike. It's 12 years old, but I don't think I can get any better.

hi,
who makes the kickstand and did you like it?
thanks -
Well I only had this bike for 2 days before I traded up AGAIN for a 2017 Marlin 7 - damn Trek and all their step ups LOL. I'm waiting for it to arrive and I'll try to do another video when I get my hands on it. I liked this Marlin 6 (and the 5) a lot (especially the firebrand paint) but the 2017 Marlin 7 comes with RockShox (from what I've read better than sun tour) with lockout, more gears, and it comes in orange too (slightly different "roarange" v. "firebrand") so I decided I should just go ahead and spend the extra money now so I wouldn't have any regrets - but it was significantly more expensive to get the 7.

Just got the same bike 17.5 frame size. The mechanic mentioned one other thing it has over the marlin 5, this bike has cassette style rear end so its stronger (bearings ride further out on the axel). So for a bigger guy less chance to bend the axel. I already put 20+ miles on and love it. For the price really can't go wrong.

Slight correction: at around the 2:00 mark I mention that for 2017 the Marlin 7 now comes in the same orange color as my 2016 Marlin 6 - however it's actually called "roarange" instead of "firebrand" and the one I saw in the bike shop looked more reddish orange than pure orange to me - I thought maybe it was just the lighting in the store but I saw a pic on some German website (USA website still has 2016 models) and they call it "roarange" and it's definitely a bit different IMO than the "firebrand". Thanks for the review Gator Greg, I didn't know they had that color in the Marlin line... I just bought a xcaliber 7 as I went in to buy a Marlin and got a pretty good deal on the xcal though it was a couple hundred more... I think the move from 5 to 6 is a good move components make a difference... I have the fx 7.4 and like the color a lot, it is a great bike also, ride safe, Mike
