http://www.Schellers.com 502-245-1955 Trek 8.4 Dual Sport for Commuting or Touring on Road, Or Head Off Road Here is one of the the most exciting bikes 2013 bikes on our sales floor. Trek's Duel Sport series delivers precisely what the name suggests, a bicycle that is designed to deliver outstanding performance both on the road and on the trail. With upright handlebars and front suspension forks, the bikes are built for comfort over a longer touring or cross country rides. The aluminum frame reduces weight to the minimum possible on a bike in this price range by using hydroforming, instead of traditional round tubes. By changing the shape at various points, the Gary Fisher designed frame can be wide where necessary for strength, aerodynamically shaped when possible, and narrow and light in places where weight is the only consideration. The bike comes equipped with 27 gears. With such a wide range of choices, the rider can find the perfect option for the steepest hills, long gradual climbs, or for aggressive downhill action. The drive train uses Shimano Alivio M431, 48/36/26 w/chainguard with a matching Alivio derailleur in the front. For the rear cluster a SRAM PG-950 11-32, 9 speed cassette and dependable Shimano Deore derailleur. All these gears are controlled by a Shimano Alivio, 9 speed trigger shifter for sure and easy shifting. There are two button here. Push one and it makes it harder to pedal. Push the other and it is easier to pedal. Besides the aluminum frame, two major elements on the bike add to comfort. First the front suspension Shocks from SR Suntour. The NRX model is adjustable w/lockout and has 63mm travel. The lockout feature allows you to go to full lockout or from lockout to full activation with a quick flip of the switch. Right now it's not locked out. Then I can flip the switch and it stops it from moving, altogether This means that you can make the switch as needed on trails that are constantly changing You hands are the second most likely place on the body to suffer the kind of fatigue that takes all the fun out of longer rides. The Bontrager Satellite Elite, lock-on, ergonomic grips give you plenty of cushion from road vibrations and allow you to position your hands in a way that reduces fatigue. I've saved the best for last. The new frame building technologies have allowed Trek to create a very wide tire clearance front and back, which ccommodates anything from a 700x35c tires with fenders, or a burly Bontrager XDX 29"x1.8" MTB tire without fenders. This feature allows you to change wheels or tires to suit your situation with no loss in performance. Thus the bike becomes truly a dual sport. http://youtu.be/DxnOvCWKGyc Video produced by Randy Kirk & Associates http://www.Help4Smallbusiness.com

Ulises Corado - Did they give you a good reason for not swapping them out? There are tons of nay-sayers who just talk crap about these bikes and what you can do with them. Don't let the shop convince you that all you can do is ride on a paved trail with your bike. Swap the tires and hit the trail. (Riding a Trek 8.4)

I went to a bike dealership and one of the guys there told me he did not recommend changing the rims or putting on different tires as this video suggested I could..... so whats the real answer?

Notice when he locks it and pushes the fork it gives a cpl times. It shouldnt budge, if its moving it defeats its purpose.(common problem with suspension locks, easily fixed) Peace to yall. -
I bought the 2014 model today, feels almost like a light 29er mountain bike rather than a traditional hybrid which I like having ridden mainly mountain bikes. It's really put together well, feels taught & strong but also light. Good component set for the money too I think.

Thanks, I will check it out as soon as I get to Bolder Co.

Trek 520 is the bike you are looking for if you need a bike to replace your car.

I have this bike and it seems it would be good for you. I'm not used to the disc brakes yet though.

So frustrating. Seems bikes in the U.S. are promoted as toys for rich kids. I need a strong reliable bike for commuting to work or the store, but also able to handle touring, gravel and dirt roads when required. Currently I live in Manila and I have such a bike which I customized myself. It started out as a mountain bike but now has fenders, racks, lights, water and comfortable handle and seat. The closest example is like a Trek police bike. I am now shopping but not finding in the U.S.
