Thanks.. I've been thinking of installing 1x11 gearing on my 2012 superfly .. i tried the trek farley out with them and loved it..i understand what you're saying about never feeling like your in the wrong gear (most times) if i can't sell my bike i'll be doing this

Nice job. I'm just getting back into MTB after a lengthy layoff and am surprised to see the market surge of 1x systems. I'm not sure that I like the idea of less gears after decades of mastering the double shift up and down, but I do admit there are times when the front derailleur doesn't cooperate even when you've made the correct shift. (Damn! look down, why am I still in the <pick one> ring? add a little thumb english to complete the shift, etc.). Good video.

thx for your advice on tooth sizes .wd still be interested to know if I would need a wider wheel to accommodate 10/11 cogs and whether I could utilise the existing handlebar gear change. .I have heard mention u may also need a rear clutch type derailier ,(not sure wot this is) .could you recommend a suitable rear derailer for my stumpjumper .thx

I currently have a traditional 3 front x 9 rear cassette stumpjumper comp 2007
,tbh I ride more road commuting than off road .although I do like to get out on the trails too .albeit not as much as Id like! .do u think a 1x11 set up would be any good and if so wot front cog size and rear cassette size ? btw if I take off my 9 speed cassette will I require a different wheel to install the larger 11 speed cassette or can I use the existing .thx colin good vid btw. -
I only use the big ring for the very few times I have to ride on a paved area getting to the trail or a smooth dirt road. But I try to save my pavement riding for my roadbike ,don't want to eat my nobby tires up .

Is it a middle size ring? On my 3by8 I'm in the middle ring 90% of the time .

How well does this set up work on a 29er hardtail . I went too long without replacing my chain and wore out my 3 by 8 setup . The shop was suggesting either 2by10 or 1by10 . Either SRAM x5 or x7 or Shimano Deore . Low mid level, can't afford top end

hey!
I'm planning on building a 1x10 setup
I'll be using a deore 11-36t 10spd cog, deore rear derailleur, deore shifters
but what crank size would be appropriate if I want to retain more on the low end? 32? 30? or smaller? I need some climbing power because my area is quite hill
thanks! -
Cheers Joel, what number of teeth up front to choose? 34? 32? 30?

You do know you can edit out that 20s awkward pause? Other wise another good video.
